Comparing the trainings I received to create my first two websites
Why the Wealthy Affiliate Training is better than the WEB Colleagues’
Let me start right off by giving credit to WEB Colleagues for being the company which introduced me to blogging and affiliate marketing and for training me to create my very first blog>. However the thumbs up go to Wealthy Affiliate for deepening my knowledge of affiliate marketing and for the in-depth training in creating my second website.
Here below are the overviews of the two programmes.
WEB Colleagues’ programme overview
These are the major highlights from their programme overview (in italics) and my comments below them.
What is a Weblog?
One of the latest and greatest ways people are making a killing on the Internet is by the use of Weblogs, better known as “blogs.”
That “making a killing on the Internet” hooked me as that was exactly what I was dreaming of on searching the internet one day to escape my 9-5 job.
What many people started realizing is that these blogs attract a large audience, because people love to read about personal experiences or about just about any subject you can think of.
I had learnt to write and was dying to be published but it was difficult to do so regularly in the main press. But here I could even write about my personal experiences and people would read them! I nearly fell off my chair.
Yet this and that part about “just about any subject you can think of” are what made me sometimes depart from my blog’s theme.
Typing short articles for online businesses and using special links has been creating an income that many only dream of.
I so much thought those “special links” did magic to create income that (thinking the more the better) I plastered them all over my web posts while Wealthy Affiliate warns me that Google doesn’t like that. And no wonder my blogspot posts did not rank in Google. At least, not much, since, even up to this day, Google still sends “skeleton traffic” (a dozen or two) to the site, months after I literally “ignored” it.
The key to a successful blog and what we are going to show you
The key to a successful blog is to get the traffic (visitors, readers) to your blog, and to keep their interest with relevant information. We will teach you how to get this traffic by getting exposure through using places such as search engines to index and rank your blog in a way that will assure its success.
WEB Colleagues respected their word by showing me how to get my blog into the search engines but why the hell didn’t my blog rank in a way that will assure its success?
We will show you how to … type a small article relating to companies you may want to work with or you can simply post some of your life’s experiences if you choose.
Being a newbie and without in-depth training, I typed just about anything concerning a company (most of it copied from their websites with a few words changed) without any further research online and did not hesitate to tell people about some of my daily occurrences which had nothing to do with affiliate marketing or websites.
We will show you how to place links to popular companies who will pay you to place them on your blog. This can create a residual income for a long time.
Tell me which success-hungry newbie like me reading this and without any caution won’t dress their posts in affiliate links?
Your efforts will be well worth the time
… we are going to show you how you can make over $1000 per DAY! All you have to do is … keep typing a few additional article posts to your blogs periodically, and you will receive an income for a long time to come. Best of all you will do all of this with very little effort, time, and with NO additional money. THIS DOES WORK!
This time I fell off my chair, believe me. But I think it was dangerous to let people believe that typing a few additional article posts to their blogs periodically, will make them receive an income for a long time to come. And more so with very little effort and time; I was almost working to exhaustion on my blog but saw very little results!
Blogging is profitable and fun
You will be able to create something from scratch and you do not even have to be creative! The blog program you will use will do about 90% of the work. All you will need to do is choose a subject, type a short article with the help of our tutorials, place a few links that will pay you for your efforts, and collect a check.
Does not having to be creative going to produce engaging articles for readers? Rereading this part now makes me wonder which blog program did 90% of my work. And how many are a few links? Wealthy Affiliate was precise in saying not to use more than two per article. Just as the saying “A word to the wise is enough”, an affiliate link per article should be all a reader bent on taking action needs. For the rest of What WEB Colleagues say, doesn’t it sound like preaching the get-rich-quick sermon?
This is easier than it looks
The first blog will be the toughest, as you will need to learn all the program features of the blog creator. Once you have followed our training to complete your first blog, any updates on that blog, or creating additional blogs will be very easy to do; many times you can spend as little as thirty minutes a day. We suggest you make sure you pay attention to any blogs you create, for you will need to make a few posts each week to assure the search engines see fresh content. The plan is to work hard on one blog to get it indexed and ranked, rather than to create 20 blogs that do not get the attention they need to get indexed and ranked.
Yeah, here comes reality at last! Kudos, WEB Colleagues!
Our training curriculum
We have broken our training down into several sections that will take you step-by-step through every important aspect from start to finish. This is a very detailed program as you will see. However, as you look at the curriculum below, DON’T PANIC many of these sections are very simple and can take as little as a few minutes to complete. Make sure not to skip any steps as you will only get confused jumping around. Keep in mind that once you go though the training, you will have a complete understanding of how everything works, and you will only need to spend a few minutes a day updating you blog(s).
Yes, the training curriculum went step-by-step but none took me a few minutes to complete. And I’m not a donkey if I knew it! And what the heck can one do in a few minutes on a blog? That is wishful thinking, if you ask me!
Training Curriculum for Part 1 – Video
Including a video at the end of the programme overview is important. Audio-visual is the best way to learn.
Wealthy Affiliate’s programme overview
These are the highlights from their programme overview (in italics) and my comments below them.
The WA Affiliate Bootcamp! is made up of 7 phases each divided into 10 lessons, therefore for a total of 70 lessons!. While a few lessons have no video, some even have up to 2 videos, what makes the lessons highly interactive, easy to follow and to apply!
WA Affiliate Bootcamp – Starting Your Foundation (PHASE 1)
Before you can even consider promoting Wealthy Affiliate, you need to have a website in place. This is going to be your place where you can engage people, help them, and ultimately convert them into happy Wealthy Affiliate members. This course is a 10 day course that is going to get you up and running with your website.
What I’m wondering about here is whoever did finish phase 1 of the Wealthy Affiliate course in 10 days? With all that information, tasks to do and family and professional pressures, the best I could manage was a month!
WA Affiliate Bootcamp – Content, Keywords and Conversions (PHASE 2)
In phase 2 of the WA Affiliate Bootcamp, our main focus is going to be on content. This includes the actual creation of content on your site, how to make it presentable and readable, how to leverage “keywords” to create content that ranks, and how to make your content to convert.
There is a big difference between just creating content and creating quality content that carries a substantial benefit. Upon completing this course, you are going to be prepared for a world of success with your content.
Note that the first paragraph above speaks volumes for this course on contents. But the most noteworthy part is this from the second paragraph: There is a big difference between just creating content and creating quality content that carries a substantial benefit. I think therein lies the big difference between WEB Colleagues’ content tutorial and Wealthy Affiliate’s.
WA Affiliate Bootcamp – Giving Your Site Social Value (PHASE 3)
In this phase of the bootcamp we are going to be making our website “socially” ready and we are going to continue to build our website out in a way that is going to lead to continued growth and success.
Social is the thing these days. In fact, humans have always been social. Kudos Wealthy Affiliate!
WA Affiliate Bootcamp – Get Visual. Get Aesthetic. Get a Brand through Media (Phase 4)
Appearance matters. Media matters. Design matters. In this phase you are going to be learning all about “sprucing” up your website to make it a better experience for your visitors. We are also going to be touching on the most powerful elements of media, including imagery, videos, and how to incorporated these into your day to day marketing activities.
How I wish WEB Colleagues had taught me this! I wouldn’t be sitting here today searching for that success I craved online some years ago.
WA Affiliate Bootcamp – Knowing Your Audiences & Catapulting Your Referrals (Phase 5)
In this phase of bootcamp we are going to be covering a variety of topics, but at it’s core this training is going to lead you to a better understanding of your audiences and having improved skills in respect to converting a visitor on your website to an invite…and to an referral.
It is good WEB Colleagues taught me how to get traffic to my website but without knowing my visitors and especially without the ability to convert them to an invite and a referral, all those referral links could well have remained in the mails the affiliate companies sent me.
<strong>WA Affiliate Bootcamp – Bing, Yahoo, & The Power of PPC (Phase 6)
With most people emphasizing their marketing efforts on Google Search, it is often times forgotten that Yahoo/Bing own 30% of the search engine market share. That is A LOT of potential traffic, regardless of your niche.
That is what WEB Colleagues forgot to tell me.
WA Affiliate Bootcamp – How to Scale Successful PPC Campaigns (PHASE 7)
Creating success within the PPC world is one thing. It is not as elusive as it sounds and once you figure it out, the next dilemma naturally becomes SCALING your campaigns to create more success. In this lesson we are going to be going through the process of scaling PPC campaigns in a way that leads to profitability and long term success.
“Profitability and long term success,” that is letting the cat out of the bag. What I need are profits and I want them lifelong!
