I quoted Ashley’s content extensively on this issue because I find his arguments very valuable. But what I don’t quite get is why what he calls “my new quote on the content topic” should be “Quality content is the President, actually.”
I think “Quality content rather / actually is the king” would have been better.

Ashley is right about quality content instead of just content being the king / president.
From an SEO perspective quality content and not just content is what counts. Because Google measures it.
On this issue Search Engine Land says “Google’s Panda Update is a search filter introduced in February 2011 meant to stop sites with poor quality content from working their way into Google’s top search results.”
That’s why on the introduction of the Panda update, sites with poor quality articles and pages, slowly faded from the best spots on Google.

Learn basic HTML
To make your content more SEO friendly, you have to tinker with the HTML of your blog posts.

- Remove Stop Words (a, the, and, etc.) from permalink
Before hitting “publish” of a blog post, you have the option to edit the permalink. This is the moment to edit your permalink and remove the stop words. A good idea is just to use keywords in your permalink.
Your life-saving Yoast SEO plugin even informs you that there are stop words in the permalinks of your post, and ask you to remove them.
Provide tags for your post

When I was a newbie blogger, colourful banners were my favourite images to brighten up a blog post. I especially loved GIF banners. I thought their flashing like Christmas lights would attract visitors.

Give your images good alt attributes. These are also known as alt tags and title tags. As alt-tags strengthen the message you put across towards various search engine spiders, they improve the accessibility of your website.
The alt and title attributes of any image are usually referred to as alter text or title tag. But they are not technically tags.

The alt tags describe an image and its function in the post. Generally, it’s the description of the image using the keyword. I usually describe the image and add my blog post title.

A title attribute is not really necessary. So you can safely leave it out. I don’t add the caption also.

Also, people with disabilities cannot view images via their screen readers. So you need to describe your image for them.

xiii. Get backlinks by guest post blogging on relevant blogs
This is a great way to build backlink links and authority.

But you can get relevant blogs linking back to you by creating valuable content for them.
But the difficulty with guest blogging is that it requires a lot of work, just as with your usual content.

To guest blog, make a list of some blogs that cover topics similar to or complementary to yours. Then contact them to see if they accept guest posts. (You may also Google for blogs in your niche that accept guest posts.)

If you target big blogs that have a huge readership, be prepared to get some rejections. Rather, look to write for smaller blogs that have some authority.
Every blog guest post you land will bring you several advantages. Your blog will be exposed to a new audience and provide you with linking opportunities. Just one or two relevant links back in the post will do.
xiv. Get backlinks by writing for article publishing sites
This is another wonderful way to build external links to your blog. They work just like guest posts. Here, you add a link back to your blog on the author bio at the end of that post.

xv. Get backlinks through other websites’ broken links
Let’s say you find a blog in your niche having a broken link. And you have got a blog post similar to the one the author was linking to.
Reach out to the person, tell them about their broken link and suggest they link back to yours instead. It works most of the time.
So, try to get other sites to give your articles / site links as reference in their content. Make the effort to get PR coverage with your site’s link in the articles. Short, having other sites directing users to your blog increases the authority of your blog.
The higher this authority, the easier it is to rank your content in search engines.
However, caution is needed.
Your content must not be hosted only on sites equal to or better than yours in terms of traffic and SEO ranking.
xvi. Don’t resort to links manipulation
Don’t sell, buy, or trade links that pass PageRank. This not only is contrary to Google’s Webmaster Guidelines, but it may cause the downranking of your website.
The same is true for exchanging links.
xvii. Use Nofollow external links
Nofollow is an HTML attribute. This is specified on hyperlinks to prevent search engine advantage of external links in a post.
In WordPress, you can select HTML section of the post window and add rel=”nofollow” attribute just after URL to prevent search engines from crawling a particular link.

He says a linkable asset is a unique, extremely useful piece of content that people find so valuable that they link spontaneously to it.

- Online guide
- Ultimate guide posts
Dominique advises that before you create a linkable asset, you must check similar top-ranking ones. So that you can come up with something better. When satisfied with your linkable asset, you need to spread word about it.
Fortunately Dominique gave five content distribution techniques to help readers.
He wasn’t wrong.
I found the piece very useful and I hope you would too.
A good example of a linkable asset Dominique indicated was ProBlogger’s job board. When I checked, I found it really a great resource for freelance bloggers looking for paid writing gigs.
No wonder it is constantly linked to in blog posts on how to make money blogging. Paid freelance writing sites also love them.
xix. Beware of spam backlinks
You must stop unscrupulous people from harming your blog’s SEO.
Some of them will send spammy links to your site. Others will post your link on spam, X-rated or scam sites.
When this is done, those sites’ values pass on to yours. Google may therefore penalize your site as a spammer.
So, you must periodically check your site for such destructive backlinks and mark them as spam. This tells Google not to pass the value of the spam websites on to you.

It enables Google to recognize synonyms and related words of keywords.
Thus, if a content ranks for the keyword ‘offers’, Google will rank it for “coupons”, “discounts”, “coupon codes”, etc. This is because Google considers coupons, offers, discounts, coupon codes as synonyms and related keywords for “offers”.
xxi. How can you find such words?
By using the free Google Keyword Planner tool in Google AdWords. It’s your companion to keyword research content planning strategy.
What does this keyword research tool do?
It shows you the search volume and competition of each keyword in a specific date range you specify. In other words, it gives you what words and phrases people are actually searching for, and approximately how often per month.
Although these numbers are not as really accurate, the tool is important. It gives the best indication of where we can get traffic from.
Because keyword research is the foundation of SEO.
All you need to do is input an idea about what you are writing about and Google will show you similar words that are being searched for.

Do you know the truism: too much of everything is bad?
That’s also true of keywords. Stuffing your pages with keywords with no regard to the relevancy, usefulness, density, and quality of the content is bad. That will get your blog penalized by Google.
The best practice is to use your keywords as naturally in your content as possible.
A tool which will help you in deciding the distribution and the quantity of keywords in your content is Yoast SEO plugin. As a blogger if you neglect this tool, it is at your own peril.
You can install it free in your WordPress blog. The premium version costs $89 for a year and comes with increased features and support .
In addition to giving you a lot of SEO insights about your content, you will receive a lot of useful information on SEO from them.
A goldmine, if you would ask me.
There are a number of other useful tools you can use for keyword research and planning.
I already talked about the free Google’s Keyword Planner. It furnishes the data Google collects on searches people perform in their search engine.
You will find information on roughly how often people search for specific search terms. It will also show you keywords people use similar to the ones you typed into the window.
But that’s not all. You can also find other phrases people use in searches. Just look at “People also ask” and “Searches related to” sections on the Google search engine results page.

Another great tool you can use to find keywords that are relevant to your content is Answer the Public.
It provides you with the possible questions (keyword possibilities) that could lead readers to your blog.

xxii. Finding money making keywords
This is a very profitable idea for bloggers I got from SEO Tips For Bloggers: How To Squeeze More Traffic Out Of Google written by Ashley Faulkes.
Your keyword research should include those of commercial intent or buyer keywords.
You’re not blogging just for fun, are you?
Your blog is your business. So to earn money with search engine traffic, you must target keywords that people use when they are looking for something to buy.
This will help you write a post like “Which Email Services Provider Can Best Serve Your Needs”. And not, “The Best Way to Send Emails to Your Subscribers”.
But on a condition.
That the “Best Autoresponder to Send Emails” attracts good traffic but has little to no competition.
In fact, such a post allows you to propose email tools to people looking for a solution to solve a problem: sending emails efficiently.
Here is a more detailed post to help you understand buyer keywords.
xxiii. Focus on long-tail keywords
Naturally, you would want to rank for the general keywords that broadly describe your blog theme.
Let’s say you are in the health advice field. Then you may think using the keyword “health advice” will make you show up higher because lots of people would be searching using “health advice.”
While that is true, the bitter truth is that using such a broad search term, you’ll come into competition with some popular websites which are already ranking very high on them.
Do you think you a small fish will survive in the same waters with big fish with various tentacles and ravenous appetite?
For example, your blog isn’t probably going to beat the big guns that you see in the top places in the image below.
Fortunately many of the people searching for SEO tips aren’t forcibly going to use that exact term.
Since they’re looking for specific information on SEO, they may employ instead “Actionable SEO tips to increase organic traffic” or “SEO tips beinner bloggers need to know” for example.
These are the long-tail keywords this sub-section is asking you to focus on. In fact, if you’re seeking to improve your SEO, unique long-tail keywords are the most important ones to focus on targeting.
Long-tail keywords are less competitive. So using such unique keywords will give you a better chance of showing up on page one of Google results.
But they must not be so unique that nobody is searching for them. This way you’ll draw some serious targeted traffic to your blog.
But keep in mind that keywords are not diamonds. Meaning they are not forever.
So don’t target a keyword and forget about it.
You must monitor and change it if things change and people stop searching for it. Otherwise, you will lose the traffic it was bringing you.

xxiv. Using your chosen keywords in your content
The basis for choosing the right keywords for your piece is to use a phrase users would also use to search for content. In the case of this post, the main keyword might be ‘SEO tips for bloggers’.
This keyword must be present in the post title as you see here. It should also appear in the content a couple of times. This lets the search engine robots know that your post is relevant to that specific search query.
xxv. Maintain the keyword density
This brings us to the number of times your chosen keyword should appear in your content. That is called keyword density. It is crucial for better ranking.
Too few will not make you rank well. Too many (called keyword stuffing) will lead to over optimization. Google views this as an attempt to manipulate the search engines, and will therefore slap a penalty on you.
Maintaining a maximum keyword ratio of 3.3% of your contents word count is not bad. I depend on my Yoast SEO plugin to tell me if I have used enough, less, or more keywords.

Thus, after finish your piece, you can analyze the whole post to find out suitable locations where the keywords can be safely inserted without distracting readers.

xxvi. Providing more keywords
This is one of the must know highly effective SEO tip for bloggers. I got it from my Yoast SEO plugin. It concerns providing more keywords under the WordPress blog posting page.
It enables me to provide my focus keyphrase and its synonyms. And four related keyphrases and their synonyms. These add to the keyword density of the post. Thus you don’t lose out on search volume (related search terms).
The keywords should be wide rather than narrow.
Supposing I were writing about “advantages of eBooks over printed books”. My keyword is “eBooks” and very probably “printed books” also.
I would use these keywords’ synonyms like “advantages of digital books over traditional books,” “advantages of electronic books over paper versions,” etc.
My secret to finding the synonyms which would correspond to what people are searching for is to plug my keyword into the Google search window. Then I note the suggestions, even before hitting the enter key.

I also check the “people also ask” and “associated search sections” under the Google search results page.

Then I choose the best 5.
I again plug each into Google and note the same as above.
This way, you don’t miss keyword synonyms which Google also takes into consideration to rank a page.
Another highly effective SEO tip for bloggers you mustn’t miss is what comes next.
Schema is a specific vocabulary of tags. You can add them to your blog post’s HTML to improve the way your page is displayed in the search results. Thus making them more attractive and inviting to click.
Schemas will enable you display star ratings, price of a product, and validity of a discount in the search result. Others are Meta descriptions, images or any other important snippet of your content.
A slightly deeper knowledge of HTML is necessary to handle schemas. Besides, it can be dangerous to tinker with your site’s HTML. Leave it alone if you are not an expert.

The pro tip they gave was: “Check out the schemas you can apply to your website! I’m sure you searched for this kick-ass microwaved chicken recipe. Did you see all those stars, images and stuff?”
They promised you could get those too if you used the structured data.
They got back to the explanation: “your recipe has to contain the know-how and the list of ingredients. You can also add some information about the prep-time and nutrition. Guess what? All of these can be the properties of a markup.”
And then gave “this simple markup of the recipe for this chicken.”
Are you now eager to easily find proper markups for your web pages? Elephate suggested to use the Structured Data Markup Helper. It will teach you everything about it. Having got the hang of it, you can pick any web page and try different markups yourself.

Once that is done, the algorithm can then figure out the weight of the keyword in relation to the number of times it appears in the web.
Basically, the more the weight of the word, the rarer it is. So, the more value the keyword has to your content and search engines.

At this level, the SEO tips and insights for bloggers are a bit more technical. So some may require a complete background in SEO. Failing that, you could do some research or seek help from a developer in order to implement these tips and insights.
The first highly effective SEO tip for bloggers we’re going to look at is the indispensable Yoast SEO plugin.
I had long read about it but didn’t install it until recently. When I saw what it was doing for my SEO I had wanted to kick myself.
23. Install Yoast SEO plugin
If you have a WordPress blog, it’s in your interest to install a Yoast SEO plugin. It is one of the must-have WordPress plugins for new bloggers and affiliate marketers. It makes handling your SEO affairs a breeze.
One thing, Yoast enables you to easily optimize your articles.
You simply choose the main keyword(s) for your topic. Then the plugin shows you whether or not it / they has / have been well utilized in the title, URL, body text, and description of the article.
It does so with green, yellow and red dots.
If your article is perfectly optimized, Yoast will display a green dot at the top right hand side of the WP admin panel. If it needs a little improvement, you will see a yellow dot. But if a lot of improvement is necessary, it will indicate a red dot.
More interestingly, it also tells you if your content is easily readable. It even gives it a readability score. To top it all, it gives you suggestions on how to improve it.
Yoast SEO plugin is free to install.
Here are some of the features of the free version:
- Breadcrumbs control: if your theme supports Yoast breadcrumbs control, you can easily customize your breadcrumbs.
- Technical stuff in the background: Yoast will let you directly edit robots.txt, htaccess file, or sitemap.xml without any additional software. For example, with just one switch, you can pick whether you want to put posts in your sitemap or not.
- Automatic canonicalization of duplicates: This is the must use feature if you’re not familiar with fixing duplicates issues.
- Title and metas management: There are plenty of options to set to show a great custom meta title.
- Search Console Integration.
- Social: You get OpenGraph data, Twitter Cards, and other cool stuff.
There is a premium version.
Here are some of the extra cool features of the premium version:
- Technical support: You can receive Yoast support for up to one year from the date of purchase of the premium version.
- Redirect manager: This reminds you whether or not you want to redirect a just-deleted page. It’s also possible to manage redirects in the form of a table, or by REGEX (for advanced users).

- Internal linking suggestions: You will get suggestions on which posts/pages you should link to in your new post. It’s important to first indicate your cornerstone posts. These are important pieces you want everybody who lands on your site to read.
- Social Preview: Lets you check how your post will look when shared on Twitter or Facebook.
24. Avoid duplicate posts
Avoid having duplicate posts on your blog.
A duplicate is the same page accessible through multiple URL addresses.
Some of the most common causes of duplicate content are:
- Keeping both, www and non-www, as well as http and https versions of your website
- Print pages
The reason to avoid such pages is that a search engine might find it difficult to decide the correct version of the web page.
Get rid of them all on your website.
Fixing a duplicate content is simple.

In the URL parameters section of Google Search Console, you can find all of your website’s URL parameters. Using this information, for example, you can tell Google that all the URLs containing parameter ?ref are passive. This means that they don’t change the content of the web page.
From this time you are giving Google a hint that https://mysite.com/blog/post?ref=AWeber is the same as https://mysite.com/blog/post?ref=MailChimp. And Google will actually crawl just a representative of each group. That is, Google will crawl either https://mysite.com/blog/post?ref=AWeber or https://mysite.com/blog/post?ref=MailChimp, but not both.
This will save your crawl budget and avoid keyword cannibalization.
However, if your parameters change the page content displayed to users, e.g. pagination https://mysite.com/blog?page=1, which definitely is different from https://mysite.com/blog?page=2, then pick another option from the drop-down list and select how a parameter affects the page content.
In this case we want to index every URL containing this parameter, because the content changes for each value of the parameter.
25. Install Screaming Frog
I’m surprised how my research for this highly effective SEO tips for bloggers made me learn new highly effective SEO pointers.
One of them was screaming frog described in the same 11 SEO Tips for Bloggers.
It is a crawling software that you can download and install on your desktop. The free version has a limit of up to 500 pages for a single crawl (list mode is unlimited).
Screaming frog visits all the pages of your website the same way as the Googlebot. It analyzes your website and provides you with fresh insights on what is going on.
The application does the crawling page by page to find all the links within them, all files, images and others. You can obtain the findings in the form of reports in CSV or Excel files.
