9 MLM companies we reviewed but didn’t recommend in 2019

In 2019 we reviewed some MLM companies. We didn’t recommend some after considering them, their products, compensation plans, and how they treat their distributors.

Although these reviews are available on our reviews tab, some readers asked if we could separate the negative from the positive ones.

We have heeded your request.

This post is therefore going to summarize those MLM companies with negative reviews so that you can have them all in one convenient place.

But before we delve in, let’s be clear on the following issues:

What is a bad MLM company?

Before we fail to recommend a company, we want to make sure it is not solid and that people are complaining about them.

Unfortunately the companies summarized here fall into this category as many people on the internet are not tender about them at all with their scathing remarks.

How can you recognize a bad MLM company product?

We look at the MLM company’s products and make sure they are overpriced and not of high quality.

All the companies listed here either offer products poor in quality or with prices that we don’t consider reasonable, and even worse, both.

What is a bad MLM compensation plan or business model?

We consider a standard MLM model in which the MLM company must sell its products exclusively and wholesale to their sales associates. And they, in turn, resell them at retail price.

Besides, they don’t sell anywhere else, like on amazon. Or, if they do at all, the prices there must be higher than one can get from the company.

We also want to know that it is not a pyramid or a Ponzi scheme of any kind.

The company must also not have any lingering legal issues. Or, if there are any, that they are making efforts to resolve them.

Any company that fails in fulfilling any or all of these qualities is considered by us as not worth joining. And that is the case of the companies we are posting about here.

How does a bad MLM company treat its customers and distributors?

When we look at these companies we check for the fact that they are putting their customers and distributors first.

When doing this we want to make sure the company is looking out for the people who are working their program.

However after reviewing these companies we found that they don’t seem to care much about the welfare of their customers and distributors.

Summary of the companies we recommended

Now that we have a good grasp of those concepts, let us see the companies we did not recommend in 2019, which are:

  1. Advocare
  2. Isagenix
  3. Monat VIP Program and Monat Program
  4. My Club 8
  5. Nevetica
  6. Nu Skin Distributors
  7. Lularoe Reviews
  8. Rodan and Fields
  9. Usana Health Services, Inc.

Are you looking to build a successful home business from home that will pay you for the rest of your life? Check out our number one recommendation for free!

The company

Advocare was founded by Charles E. Ragus in 1993 in Carrollton, Texas and is now headquartered in Plano, Texas.

Advocare is actually short for advocates who care.

Advocare set up celebrity endorsers from Major League Baseball, Soccer, The NFL and many other sports entities.

The company sponsored the Independence Bowl and also sponsored jersey for a professional soccer team.

Advocare became sponsors of Nascar race teams and even had races named after them.

All this eventually caught up with the company and they ended up paying millions out to customers who had been ripped off.

The Products

In review after review, we found reports of unsafe ingredients, false claims of results and even some dangerous combinations of ingredients marketed to kids.

Couple that will all of the deception with the once in a lifetime business opportunity and you get a very nasty taste in your mouth.

2. Isagenix

We would love to give you a free tour of our number one recommendation for building a home business! We have first-hand experience with this company and would love to share what we have learned about them with you!

The company

Isagenix International LLC is a privately traded company that is based out of Gilbert, Arizona. It was founded in 2002 by Jim and Kathy Coover and John Anderson.

They have over 800 active employees and over 200,000 MLM distributors. They are a 0.92 billion dollar a year business.

Coming in at number 27 on the list of top 100 multi-level marketing entities in the world, they are a force in their niche.

Their Products

In reviewing this company’s products we said we found many negative reviews.

Their anti-aging formula gets rave reviews and seems to be their strong point in sales.

MLM Business Model

Isagenix International LLC uses the binary plan, the weakest of the bunch of mlm plans.

You can make money selling for this company. But the average distributor’s income per year is very low.

Another big red flag is that the company compensates distributors for recruiting new distributors.

The FTC frowns upon this kind of compensation.

3. Monat VIP Program and Monat Program

The Monat Program

Monat is based out of Doral, Florida and was founded and launched in 2014 with a good line of hair care products by a family by the name of Urdaneta.

They started small but have since expanded their operations to cover the EU, Canada and the United States of America.

They have several different levels ranging from $99.00 to $649.00 and these membership costs are monthly.

Why the negative reviews?

The products are not performing the way they used to.

Claims are made to tier customers that these products are Food And Drug Administration (FDA) approved and this is simply not the case at all.

The MLM Program

This company is actually offering their products all over including on Amazon at a lower rate than the members can get them directly from the company.

Scam or not?

We cannot call this MLM program a scam.

This still leaves the problem of getting people to sign up under you and without this ability on a consistent basis, you will not make money in any MLM company.

Want to make money online and be in control of your own future? Check out our number one recommendation by clicking here!

What is Myclub8?

This is a fairly new MLM program.

After checking out their website we could not find any information on the founder or founders or where they are based out of.

Myclub8 is a division of a Canadian company called Laguna Blends.

MyClub8 Product Lines

We found some bottles of CBD drops called Nano-drops that sell for $39.95.

In closer digging, we found that what this company really sells is memberships in the company and once a person signs up they will receive 2 bottles of these drops.

The Myclub8 membership and Compensation Plan

So when you buy a membership for $39.95 you are locking yourself into the affiliate program and are then able to market memberships to others for a profit.

When you lock in you are at the top of your particular model and as you recruit more and more the model gets deeper and your earnings grow.

We are starting to see where this is headed, the top dogs are going to make all the money and the lower recruits will be doing all of the work!!

My Club 8 sounds like nothing more than a pyramid scheme.

5. Nevetica

We want you to check our number one recommended program which provides true value, can be automated, can earn you a residual income, you can relate to and promote passionately and receive support and help.

What is the Nevetica Company?

We simply could not find any personal information on where they are based out of, who founded the company and the likes. Just nothing, not even on their website.

The Nevetica Products

They do have a really nice selection of products for sale for the health and maintenance of your pet and your pets’ area. But there are still concerns with the use of nutraceuticals.

This program is asking pet owners to give their pets daily doses of these nutraceuticals to keep them healthy. At the same time vets are saying just the opposite so we have run into a real red flag here.

Now, Is Nevetica A Pyramid Scheme?

Nevetica may not be classified as such but it sure has elements of a pyramid scheme.

What Is Nevetica’s Compensation Plan?

There are really only two things you need to know, however.

The first is, you can make money selling the products. So when you buy from Nevetica you get a discount.

The second is, building a downline and earning 10% on the total sales volume of your team.

Getting started with Nevetica

The minimum cost to join is $225. This gives you right to the Business Builder Pack so that you can sell Nevetica’s products.

Nu Skin Enterprises

Nu Skin Enterprises is a company based out of Provo, Utah and was created in 1984 by Steve Lund, Blake Roney, and Sandi Tillotson and they have built the business into a 2.28 billion dollar a year entity.

Nu skin has over 1.2 million distributors and does business in 54 markets worldwide.

The Products

Popular products include Herbal Mineral Bath, Liquid Body Lufra, Liquid Body Bar, Body Care Essentials Package, and many others.

Their main moneymaker is its anti-aging products.

The products are not cheap but they are very popular.

Nu Skins Compensation Plan

This company has a very advanced compensation plan that has many levels and at first glance is very confusing.

You get a 25 percent discount on all products purchased wholesale and you keep the difference of the retail sales.

Legal Issues

Nu Skin has been sued by several states claiming false sales reports for its distributors and has even been labeled a pyramid scheme by one state.

Considering the high cost of the products and the complicated sales goals and its legal problems this program has a lot of red flags.

We have been checking out all of the reviews that have been hitting the internet so we thought we would do a review of the Lularoe reviews.

Want to make money online and be in control of your own future? Check out our number one recommendation by clicking here!

What is Lularoe?

Lularoe is a clothing outlet that is exclusively sold by consultants in their multi-level marketing company.

The company was founded by Deanne Brady along with her husband Mark Stidham in 2013. Their base of operations is in Corona, California.

The company boasted sales of 1 billion with 80.000 distributors worldwide.

This is not a company for the beginner unless they are well funded as the company wants its distributors to carry around $20.000 in inventory at any given time.

Their Products

Their products are all clothing.

Legal mess

It seems that many different lawsuits have been filed against this company.

The distributors also claimed the products were not made to acceptable quality.

And of course, because of over 300 new complaints, this company got another F rating from the BBB.

The hammer really fell in January of 2019 when the Washinton State Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Lularoe claiming they have been pumping recruitment over product sales and are nothing but an illegal pyramid scheme.

The Reviews

When we started this article, we found nothing but bad review after bad review.

The company

Rodan and Fields were founded in 2007 by Katie Rodan and Kathy Fileds.

Their headquarters are in San Fransisco, California and they are distributed in the United Staes, Canada, and Australia.

The Products

Rodan and Fields sell sunscreens, creams, moisturizers, toners, cleansers, and exfoliators.

These products are available through their independent consultants. Therefore we were troubled to also find them for sale on Amazon.

We were also troubled by the high prices of the products.

Rodan and Fields compensation plan

You can become a member of the team and be an independent consultant by buying a member kit which starts at $45.00

Rodan and Fields offer many in-house training tools and materials to help the consultants sell their products. They also offer all kinds of support through other consultants.

  2. The issue with MLM is its tendency to distributing % values that go against the product’s final price and increases the gap between original product cost and price and then, resulting in a less valuable item being delivered. Quality used to be really good, but as too much needs to be paid out to multi-level marketers, the final relation price/quality is not fair to the final consumer.

The fact of having an actual product is great (not a pyramid by definition). If you can get access to the right market and you can develop the eye to identify who could be a great leader and who could be a great consumer you’re set to success.

What happens is as follows: looking for fulfilling your production structure, you sale product to someone and the next day you’re offering the same person to become a multi-level-marketer, > Type A person – Fell bad about having gotten an item at a price and realizing more than 50% of the products gets paid on commissions, get frustrated and never consume it again. > Type B person – Will give it an honest try, but as doesn’t have any sales or leadership ability on place, ends up consuming the products at a discounted price and accumulating 2 or 3 months of products before realizing that behavior is not sustainable and give up.

Pick your best MLM, develop it with love and patience and it’ll deliver results; It’s better getting a faithful consumer than a faulty associate. Identifying who cand perform as either one would be the greatest talent to develop in any MLM business.

    • Hi Juan,

Yes, MLM companies offer % values to people in terms of compensation, product or otherwise. As you observed, I have always told people that the high cost of mlm products is to be able to pay commissions to the chain of affiliates without losing money. And it is rightly the final consumer who pays the price.

Sure, offering a product enables an mlm company to avoid being labelled a pyramid scheme. Some companies therefore add a product but still put the accent on recruiting people to make money.

Thank you for such a very detailed comment.

  3. Hi Akoli,

MLM opportunities are all over the internet, capturing a large audience of people looking to make money online. The most factor working against MLM’s favor is the fact that you have to buy a pricy low-quality product and have to constantly recruit new people which is time and money consuming.

I would choose Affiliate marketing without a blink of the eye and the program you recommend, Wealthy Affiliate, is bar none the best program available online.

    Thanks,

    Jordan.

    • Hi Jordan,

Yes, these bad MLM opportunities flourish all over the internet because there are people to trust them. This is why we make it a duty to warn them with such pieces. As you said, not only do bad mlm companies sell pricy low-quality products to people but also force them to devote all their time and people to recruiting new members.

Thanks for accepting our N° 1 recommendation. Wealthy Affiliate teaches you to create a real business online.
