Can one be successful in Multi-Level Marketing?

Despite the conflicting debate the term Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) or Network Marketing generates, the fact that one can be successful in such a business cannot be ignored.

The long existence of a wide range of MLM organizations is a wonderful indicator that MLM is here to stay and flourish.

Besides, more individuals are trying to sign up with the bandwagon, developing their own MLM.

Why the high failure rate in Network Marketing?

A lot of people are completely misdirected or misinformed about multi-level marketing. They are made to believe that it is a get-rich-quick scheme.

These people then join the business expecting to make money without much effort. No wonder nothing happens. This results in the collapse of several network marketing businesses.

Downline – MLM’s crucial success element

True that it is hard to maintain multi-level marketing that might progress well, but unquestionably there is one crucial part for a network marketing company’s success.

This is duplicating a downline.

Unfortunately the majority of people do not know how to build a duplicating team.

Hopefully with the suggestions to be presented in this post, one may have the knowledge to gather a well producing force that practically instantly translate into an efficient MLM business.

How to build a downline for MLM success

Multi-level marketing definitely entails management, specifically when developing a downline.

Building a downline is only another expression for the recruitment procedure. That, in itself, is not enough. Know that fantastic people management abilities is essential in order for the team to operate well, and hence replicate.

A lot of individuals are made to believe that MLM is a self-generating business. How untrue! For if that was the case, then no MLM organization would ever have ceased operating.

Teams definitely do not duplicate on their own, even if the product being marketed is perfect for the market.

The people in the downline are to be trained and mentored well or else the business would take no useful direction and would finally fail.

The person at the top of the downline may be able to sign a large number of people. However, that does not guarantee duplication.

Duplication is not just adding people to your downline. Know that they can leave at any time.

Without clear instructions, the network would not expand towards success but rather become soon paralyzed.

The ones at the top may quickly put the blame on the ones at the bottom, but who hired the individuals down there anyway? You have a responsibility towards them.

Since you benefit from their efforts, if you help people below you get what they want it goes without saying that you’ll also get what you want.

How to manage a downline for success

Managing a multi-level marketing organization involves a lot of kindness and selflessness.

Duplicability is after all not just the expansion of individuals in number, but the duplication of the success among all the individuals in the downline.

Is this redundant to repeat?

It is an unfortunate fact that in human life a great deal of individuals believe just in themselves. Therefore the people at the top might be concerned just of their own success and see the ones under them as nothing but devices to build their success.

However that cannot work in multi-level marketing. Or even in any other kind of business needing enrollees.

In order for the leader to succeed, the bottom ought to be able to be successful too. When building a downline, one must therefore have a state of mind that permits the success to drip downwards, and not simply to remain at the top.

The founder of the network marketing company must be really mindful that what he or she was able to do, the individuals in the downline could also do completely. This is also true for the team leader.

There need to be no secrets withheld within the organization for the downline to use to replicate.

The topline needs to have the openness of mind to share and teach the team the very same approaches and strategies which brought them success. So that the success of the top could be replicated by individuals in the downline.

Constructing a duplicating team in fact suggests replicating one’s self.

This means that when building a downline, one does not just tell people how to offer. Rather, one influences or even infects others with one’s entire self. Well, at least, simply the business element of one’s self.

When building a downline, one needs to transmit the psyche of the leader to the bottom. For the bottom ought to be able to act in the same method as the ones at the top.

This way the downline ultimately becomes one with their founder or team leader. They need to have the ability to share the very same dreams, stress and anxieties and hopes so that the success that the ones at the top experienced would be duplicated by those at the bottom.

This speaks a lot about the recruitment procedure itself.

True that is tough to enlist exact copies of the creator. However one needs to carefully enjoin individuals who have the capacity to believe and act in the exact same wavelength as the employer.

In this light, the leader of an MLM company should see and show how the connection with the downline, or the prospective downline is.

First one has to make sure if individuals in the team could relate with the leader and vice-versa. Duplication cannot be attained without proper relation.

Second, the leader ought to act in a manner that is not so pushing away to the downline, otherwise they may believe too extremely of the leader that they may presume they would never have the ability to be like him or her.

Once again a replicating downline needs to have a duplicable top. With this in mind, building a duplicability can be ensured as well as the success of business.

Summary conclusion

Downlines certainly do not duplicate on their own, even if the product being marketed is the best.

The people in the downline are to be trained and mentored well or else the business would not take off and would finally fall flat.

The individual at the top of the team may be able to sign multitudes, but that does not guarantee duplication.

In this light, the leader of a network marketing organization need to see and reflect how the connection with the down line, or the potential downline is.

One has to be sure if the people in the downline could relate with the leader and vice-versa.

  1. Typically the MLM companies themselves are to blame for members concentrating on sign ups and recruiting.  I thought your perspective on recruitment in building a successful down-line and not just a down-line is spot on.  I have been a part of a number of MLM’s in my life and when the product is good and provides value it is perplexing when the company fails.  I have found that many of the uplines are merely coming from another MLM and repeating the recruiting and running scenario.  Great information and advice!  Look for a culture of building up the sales force for long-term success.

    1. Hello Robert,

I agree with you that the MLM companies themselves are to blame for members concentrating on sign ups and recruiting. They even spell it out as what you must do to succeed. While all that it does is get them more members and therefore more membership fees and more product sales. Yes, there is a big difference between a successful down-line and just a down-line. This partly explains why an MLM’s product can be good but the business fails. People do not give their all. I have myself joined companies in which I did practically nothing when I found out they only needed my money. Let them go look for it elsewhere.

  2. Thank you for your post. It is useful for me. I joined several MLM teams and feel it is hard to build my downline, which is critical for MLM success.

I like your advice on how to build a downline for MLM success. There are a lot of management skills involved to establish a successful team.

The first step is recruitment. After this, you need to train and mentor your downline. One critical point is that you need to help people below you get what they want in order to keep them in your team. With apparent benefits, your downline will leave soon.

It is kind of you sharing this useful information with us.

    1. Hi Anthony

Thank you too for your comment. I’m glad that you found it useful. Yes, it’s hard to build a downline in MLM. Unless, of course, you have a large list.

People just recruit others but neglect to train and mentor them. No wonder the failure rate in MLM is so high.

It was my pleasure sharing this information with you.

  3. I think that actually doing things for people that actually help them is a powerful way to build a solid down line. Kind of like a servant leader. When they see what you have done for them, they then have a model they know how to use confidently because they know it works well. What you have written seems to line up with this.

I enjoyed the video – been there done that. I knew what he was going to say. Any thought of getting back into network marketing again has long since been well and truly beaten out of me – run the other way sort of thing. Having said that you make some good points. Having your psyche permeate the down line is a good idea, but how do you achieve that? I would have liked some examples.

What kind of business are you in? I would be interested to know more.

    1. Hi Garry,

Who doesn’t appreciate help? That’s why when you help people you can build a solid downline. Sure, every leader is a servant. You serve your enrollees to duplicate your efforts for their own success.

A video in a text is an extra ingredient that spices the meal. You are the millionth person to say that you hate MLM. If only those companies could listen to people and change their methods! Being the leader of your team, you certainly have some experience to share with the downline to advance matters. For example, a plan that makes you work better and more efficiently.

      I’m in affiliate marketing.
