While a little sneaky, especially in the header, it’s like link units. The only difference is that there’s no landing page so visitors are driven straight to the merchant page.
21. Put links in content that fully educates
The aim of blogging is to be helpful to your blog visitors. Therefore you must write long-from articles to give value to people.
Just because you have an affiliate link to promote doesn’t mean you can hurriedly put some content together and drop in an affiliate link.
Your audience will see through that as a ploy to promote your affiliate link and not to entertain them.
Therefore build your posts around your links and not vice versa.
22. Replace ads with affiliate links during peak shopping times
At certain moments of the year (such as Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving Day), the likelihood that someone going to an e-commerce store will buy something is great.
23. Resources or Tools Pages
As part of your marketing strategy as an authority or thought leader on particular topics, it is important to create a Resources page on your website.
This should highlighting the top tools and products you regularly use and therefore recommend.
List and discuss them. Don’t fake it. They must be authentic so that you know your readers will benefit from using them.
24. Set up collaboration with your affiliate manager
If you make very good sales with a merchant, reach out to the affiliate manager and ask for more resources you can use to promote the product.
With the statistics speaking in your f avour, Affiliate managers will be more than delighted to provide you plenty of resources to generate more sales.
25. Shorten your links
As people grow more and more aware of the kinds of tricks that are used to scam them online, they pay extra attention to links.
In effect, scammers have used ghost links with strings of gibberish making it impossible to know where the link is going to.
Let’s take a look at these four different Amazon links, all of which lead to the same product:
(N.B.: Since they are for demonstration purpose only, the affiliate code has been removed from these affiliate links. They are therefore not valid tracking links that one can click.)
The first URL is the complete link with Amazon reference information added so that when someone clicks through their pages they can reach the product. See how ugly it looks.
The second however is the same link with all of the reference information removed, making it look less ugly.
The third one is a bare affiliate link having reference information. It looks clickable.
The fourth is a shortlink generated by an Amazon affiliate. It is by far the cleanest, because all of the reference information used for tracking is stripped off. But when someone clicks on it, the link will still take them to the product like the first one.
For Amazon associates, the site offers a shortlink for this purpose. But other affiliate networks don’t. Their affiliate marketers are therefore obliged to route their affiliate links through a cloaking redirect.
Cloaking also offers you a convenient centralized way to handle your affiliate links.
Imagine the case where a product changes or you yourself want to change a link.
You would find that it is far easier to change a single central redirect than to do so with a numerous links spread across many internal pages.

26. Swap related posts grids for affiliate product grids
Do this only during peak shopping times when it works very well.
27. Use Auto Affiliate Link Software
You could use something like SEO Smart Links or Thirsty Affiliates (You might need the Thirsty Affiliates addon module) and create affiliate links automatically for any keyword(s) on your site. You would find this as a very fast way to create a lot of affiliate links. I have never done this myself, but it’s a concept to try. Just be sure to no-follow the links.
28. Use “Prize” ad
If you have a really good offer, create a landing page relating to the “prize” aspect of the ad.
You may also work something out directly with a merchant too.
29. Write click-incentive link text
Write link copy or banner copy using words such as best price, deals, discounts, and sales. Examples:
“Click here for lowest prices”, “Buy 2 and get 1 free”, “Up to 50% off” or “Black Friday. Save 49% on Premium Membership”.
Know that Amazon.com doesn’t allow this.
30. You’re not reaching your target audience/targeting the wrong one
If you are driving enough traffic to your site, but that traffic is not converting, it may be that your offers are not the type that traffic is looking for. You cannot ask a lion to chew grass.
On the other hand, if you have what Africans describe as eyes bigger than the sockets and eye high-paying affiliate commission products instead of high-volume commission products, you may not have any clicks on your affiliate links.
Sure, selling that yacht or private jet will let you hit it big, but if your site isn’t designed to target the hyper-rich in that very narrow niche, then you aren’t going to be going anywhere in terms of sales.
31. Your links must not be in your navigation
Adding your affiliate links to places other than in your content is tantamount to setting them up to be ignored.
Isn’t this a contradiction of what we said in number 20 above?
Not quite, because people won’t click a link in your navigation or sidebar only if they weren’t extremely compelling. Yet an affiliate offer is hardly compelling enough to be clicked without being bolstered by a full blog post.
Remember we even said putting your links in your navigation was a little sneaky, especially in the header?
Apart from people ignoring them, another reason not to add such links to your navigation is that it can lead to a demotion in your search visibility or at worst, a Google penalty.
32. Your links must not be loaded upfront
Putting your affiliate links up at the top of your article is a bad idea because it will be ignored by your readers.
This is because the person who landed on your page did so following a recommendation or a term they had searched for.
They therefore came for information to solve a problem they assume your page will provide. They are not in the frame of mind to click an affiliate link until your content has convinced them to do so.
I generally put my affiliate link in the first quarter or the top third of my content. I know it will be ignored, but it is important as a plant to tell the reader to remember to click it. So I put another link in the middle and a third closer to the end. If the post is exceptionally long I spread the link throughout, at strategic places.
The danger of putting your affiliate link only at the end of your content is that readers don’t find it as people don’t generally read an article right to the end.
If in doubt, do some testing with different positions for your links, so you know which one captures your visitors’ attention.
33. Your site must have trust
How can your site exhibit trust?
With the use or display of the following kinds of trust signals:
- Customer testimonials: Not necessarily helpful for a pure affiliate site but worthwhile if you sell products of your own or even offer consulting.
- Product reviews: Take a screenshot or quotes of good reviews of the product you’re selling to bolster your marketing.
- Social signals: Although less valuable now, but still a lot of shares on your posts can indicate to visitors that you have something worthwhile to say.
When you display a few of these, it can get people to click through your links.
A lot of trust signals are more applicable to storefronts.

Off-Site Affiliate Link Tips
N.B.: Some merchants don’t allow off-site promotion of affiliate links. It’s therefore important to confirm with each affiliate site before you start your promotion.
Amazon, for instance, doesn’t permit affiliate links in email newsletters. Other merchants don’t permit affiliate links on social media sites like Pinterest.
That said, we will begin with social media sites. And the first one we will consider is Facebook.
A great place to promote your affiliate links on social media is on Facebook. You can do this via your personal profile or a Business page.
One, two or three posts with affiliate links is okay during a peak shopping period. It’s important to make people know it’s an ad with the words “Ad” in the text area.
Word of caution: don’t spam your followers’ feeds with affiliate link posts. Your goal is to convince someone to click on your affiliate links and make a purchase. Do so by posting educational, entertaining, and intriguing content that include your affiliate links.
Know that people use Facebook for a variety of business and especially personal reasons. So there are several different ways to reach them on the platform.
On your personal page, you might post something like helpful tips you’ve learned about doing affiliate marketing without using money and a website.
This might prompt someone to comment asking for more information.
Then you could say something like, “Thanks for your request for more info. Here’s the link to how to do affiliate marketing without breaking the bank.”
As you see, you didn’t try at all to sell anything. You simply posted a useful content that caught somebody’s fancy.
Be helpful, and people will find value in what you’re doing.
However you can use Facebook ads to get your link out there. You can build such ads to target certain groups of people.
For example, you can run an ad targeting people who like Affiliate Marketing. These ads are also extremely cost-effective. You can set whatever budget you want, be it $1 per day, or $10, or $100, whatever.
Unlike Facebook, Instagram is an application built exclusively for mobile devices. And like Pinterest, it is based on image sharing.
As such, the key to success on Instagram is to share good, interesting photos using strong captions and hashtags.
For example, you could take pictures of your latest video or webinar equipment from eBay which you are also promoting, and post it, accompanied with as many hashtags as possible. #eBayVideoEquipment, #bestEBayVideoEquipment, eBaySeller, #eBayWebinarEquipment, #WebinarEquipmentHowTo.
The hashtags are how people will find your Instagram posts.
You can generate traffic from your Instagram posts promoting your affiliate links. However, Instagram posts are not clickable.
Drive fans to your bio where they can click on a link.
Another way around is to include links in Instagram Stories. But you must first gain more than 10k followers to be able to do so.
So if you are keen on getting people to click on your affiliate links and engage with your content on Instagram, endeavor first to build a loyal audience. They will be more than likely to click on your affiliate links, whether in the bio or in the Stories.
LinkedIn is a profession-based social network. That does not make it less of a network of different audiences that use the platform to share and read personal experiences, discussions, and recommendations.
Therefore you can make connections with professionals and people with whom you share interests. Then you can use your LinkedIn profile to promote your affiliate products in a long-format post. Or you can even share a link to an article on your blog, which is what I do.
Pinterest is like Instagram but it is a visual social media platform par excellence.
The site offers you several opportunities to drive traffic to your affiliate links, especially those which promote physical products.
The way you use the platform for business is to create pins and boards around a particular product. On the other hand, you can include your affiliate link with a pin on a board created for a broader topic.
For example, an affiliate marketing blogger can create a Pinterest board around blogging tips, SEO, link building, content creation, etc. Within that board, they could include one or two pins containing their affiliate links.
To find out which board drives the best results, check both your affiliate dashboard and your Pinterest Analytics.
You can use Canva.com to make attractive collages of products from a merchant and infographics on how the product works. Then link both to that merchant with an affiliate link.
Like everything online, and especially social media, don’t spam by linking non-related images with affiliate links. Your Pinterest account could be suspended, or at worse, you could lose it altogether.

As you see, an online course is a natural place to put your affiliate link.
52. Invest in paid advertising
Investing in paid advertising allows you to reach audiences on a wider scale and increases traffic to your web page.
Facebook, Google AdWords, Twitter, LinkedIn and similar sites have their own ad targeting tools, so there are plenty of platforms to invest in to make sure your affiliate campaigns gain visibility.
Use these ad tools to direct people to your blog where your affiliate links are located. Similarly, you can use the paid ads to direct the customer straight to the merchants page using your affiliate links.
53. Promote informational content on vendors’ sites
If you can create affiliate links to any page on a merchant’s site, use this approach to trigger cookies and send traffic to informational info on vendor’s sites.
Thankfully, an increasing number of e-commerce websites now have blogs, galleries, tools, tips and resources to which you can send your audience using custom affiliate links.
