That’s what we’re going to see using the 10 factors we draw on to write our MLM reviews.

That said, let’s dive in to see the first one.

Year of creation / Number of years of companies and other details

Legalshield started operating the Sportsman’s Motor Club in 1972 and kept that name for 4 years (that is, up  to 1976.)

The founder, Mr. Harland Stoneciper, made his first public offering on the stock market in 1984.

But in 2011, the company reversed into a privately traded entity.

It was then MidOcean Partners bought it and changed the name to what their name is now: Legalshield.

They designate their business as a multi-level marketing/pre-paid legal services company. They also deal with theft protection with Kroll, INC as a partner in the identity theft protection division.

In addition to 700 people Legalshield employs at various positions in the company, they also count over 6900 attorneys in their prepaid legal network.

The company proposes its membership plans in two ways: through their MLM plan and through their employee benefits.

Primerica on the other hand was founded on February 10th, 1977.

It is a publicly-traded company and it has its headquarters in Duluth, Georgia.

The company employs 2154 full-time workers and another 614 are on call.

Primerica is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. And they pay out an average of 3.8 million benefits a day.

Founder(s) and/or Director(s) of the company

Harland Stonecipher set up this company in Ada, Oklahoma. He then incorporated and named it Pre-Paid Legal Services.

Primerica was founded by Arther L. Williams Jr.

Position among top 100 MLM companies in the world

They come in at number 43 on the list of the top multi-level marketing companies in the world.

The company is at number 15 on the list of the top 100 MLM companies in the world.

Products and/or services offered

This company’s products are just as the company’s name sounds: prepaid legal advice and identity theft protection.

While that is a good field to deal in, we were not happy to find quite a few reports of limited coverage and exclusions for many services people need.

However from those that fit their individual needs, customers can have legal coverage plans and home protection plans.

The plans start at $17.95 and up for personal ones and $39 a month for small business plans.

Now, how do the plans work?

Legalshield set you up on a monthly payment plan that you can afford. And should the need for legal services arise, you get access to the network.

Isn’t that great? We think it is.

Services offered by Legalshield include consumer finance, real estate, collections, employment, estate planning, traffic, and civil litigation.

A complete list of these services can be consulted at their website.

We think the Legalshield idea is a really brilliant one. The same goes for their identity theft plans.

Primerica on its side deals with debt management plans, insurance, credit monitoring, and investment funds.

They are the largest company in America which does business in independent financial services.

The company commands great respect in the financial industry. On top of that, they stand behind their services 100 percent.

Number of countries in which the companies do business

The company’s areas of operation are the United States and Canada.

Primerica conducts business principally in the US and Canada; the company also operates in Spain as CitiSoluciones.

Business model / Compensation plan

To get started working with LegalShield you have to first buy a membership.

After that you will sign up as an associate by paying the $99.00 fee and signing the MLM agreement.

Now you are free to start selling memberships and earn commissions off of the sales. In addition, you will sign up new associates and start building your downline.

This downline works in much the same way as most of the popular MLM business models you will find out there.

If you need more information on how this model can work for you, consult their Legalshield compensation page and their Legalshield compensation plan pdf.

The company says that the average associate’s annual income is around $44,000.00 a year for independent reps and 1K+ for sales reps. It is $1,732 for sales managers and $6,000 for a sales professional.

There is not only money to be made working for Legalshield but also the product supports the MLM model quite well.

However there is one potential red flag with Legalshield. It concerns the number of lawsuits both pending and settled. But we do understand that when you are dealing with legal issues across the country laws are different from State to State and friction is bound to rear its ugly head.

We therefore took a good look at each individual case we could find info on. And as it was to be expected, every one of them deals with or is dealing with local and State laws.

They adopt an eleven tiered multilevel marketing system. This system pays up all eleven levels through commissions of sales of their products and services.

If you are wondering, Primerica is not in any way a pyramid scheme. And it is quite possible to make 95 percent of profits on sales as one grows in the company. But be warned: it takes a serious commitment to making these kinds of profits.

There is a $99.00 one-time fee you pay to join Primerica. And then you have a monthly $25.00 fee to pay.

The company calls their sales force “Investment Representatives”. They are asked to make warm sales calls with family and friends.

The reps are also encouraged to set up over the kitchen table meetings with people they think they can convince to become customers.

Primerica supplies its investment representatives sales meetings and training meetings. This will teach them all they need to know about all the products. You will also get details about all you will need to become licensed to sell life insurance.

One other specificity: The company asks for their reps for lists of friends, relatives, and acquaintances and their phone numbers. Then they set up sales calls for them.

We hope that you see this is now starting to sound like a very specific way to make a living online. But know that this system is reserved for those who excel in these types of businesses.

Annual sales

They boast an annual income of $450.0 billion dollars.

Primerica however shows an annual revenue of 1.69 billion dollars.

Pros and cons

The pros

  • Great company
  • Great network of law firms
  • Gret network of lawyers
  • Good business model
  • Great commissions
  • Affordable products
  • Needed products
  • Quality products
  • Company-provided training

The cons

  • Many legal issues
  • Too many restrictions on legal services offered
  • Limit to 15 pages of contract reviews
  • No criminal charges are covered
  • No medication-related charges are covered
  • No divorce cases covered
  • No child custody cases covered

The Pros

There are many pros for the right kinds of people for this business. So it is up to you to study it carefully to see if you have what it takes to work under their conditions.

You can make a lot of money with Primerica if you are the kind of person that is capable of selling to your family and relatives. You’re also well set if you can make cold-call sales.

Primerica is a solid company that is well respected by others in the industry. As icing on the cake, they have a policy of walking you through all training and licensing that are required to begin working and succeed.

Primerica organizes weekly training meetings for their reps in addition to plenty of support. They go to all that length just to make sure you succeed. Because they know without you there wouldn’t be any company.

The Cons

If there was something we did not have any trouble finding it was plenty of cons for this multi-level program from the average marketer. We realized they were from people who could not make money doing this type of marketing. One would expect them not to do anything other than give a negative review of the company.

The first con we saw is that they do not put their representatives first. This comes from the fact that many former sales reps report the company was always reminding them that they did not need to understand the product, they just must sell it. This indicates they put the product first, which is a huge red flag.

Many reps also complained of higher prices on renewals. This is all in addition to the fact that Primerica’ products and services run an average of 25 percent higher than their competitors’.

The company further targets low-income households and heaps in their reps services they really cannot afford.

Bans / Complaints / Legal issues

There is nothing outright to report except those already detailed above.

Our view of / take on the company

We feel there’s nothing wrong with their business plan as it is average and set up like most popular multi-level marketing plans. The fact that the commissions are paid is also good for their image.

We find the products and the training program as both acceptable.

But we have to voice our displeasure over the restrictions on the legal help Legalshield is selling. We wish there were fewer. Because all said and done that is what matters when working an MLM program.

All said and considered, this company gets a thumbs up from us. And we think both the beginners and the veterans of multi-level marketing experience can have a go with this company and make money.

The first remark here is that Primerica is a very well-established company with a proven track record and a proven sales method for their reps.

It is a multi-level marketing program built for people who like doing warm selling. It is also a good fit for those who love the financial niche and can excel in this type of setting.

If this person is you, then our big thumbs up of this program is for you. So we encourage you to get it!

On the other hand, if you are an average marketer looking for a reliable way to make money without the pressure of selling to your friends, our advice is to keep on searching. There are many other programs to choose from. See the one below:

  1. MLM money making oppurtunities that are legitimate oppurtunities are a good way to make money.  Selling to family and friends works really well for some people.  There is a place in our economic society for this kind of selling.  The real payoff is in how well you can sell, one on one.  If the answer to that is ” yes I can do this” then, Legal Sheild or Primerica may be the company you are looking for.  I do think that I agree that Legal Sheild has higher marks, compared to Primerica

Others of us who want to work from home don’t do so well with this kind of business, and we do well to avoid MLM’s.  Fortunately, there are opportunities for those as well.  I appreciate the review of both companies as I have not checked out either.  Should I in the future want to pursue one of the MLM’s I feel that your information and opinions have given me a better understanding of the way the MLM’s work.  Thank you, Sami

    • Hello Sami,

Yes, despite many people avoiding them, MLMs remain a good way to make money. Normally, selling to family and friends should be the easiest but it becomes the mist difficult because people do not see working at home as a normal type of work. And with increasing scams online, they view your business with a skeptical mind and suspicious eyes.

Yes, anyone who cannot do this kind of business should rather keep off or lose money. Better yet, as you said, they should search further. Fortunately we make a recommendation. Thank you, Sami, for your very valuable controbution to this conversation.
