Enlightenment is, essentially, a completion of what you are. It is a fulfillment if all that you are, it is when you become present as everything that you are. This involves your desires.
Enlightenment is sometimes called “self-actualization”. It is because you actualize your self and your Self – both your mind and your essence, your true nature.
Denial and refusal to accept who you are pushes you away from yourself, blinds you to yourself. Splitting yourself into bad desire parts and good spiritual parts, and then trying to get rid of the bad desire parts while chasing after the good spiritual parts, blinds you to yourself, pushes you away from realizing the entirety of yourself.
Your path to enlightenment is not special spiritual practices, special spiritual thoughts, special spiritual feelings. Your path to enlightenment is your life. All of your life. Everything in your life is an expression of who you are – your thoughts, desires and needs as much as everything else. On the path to enlightenment, the path that is your life, you need to include everything, be present with everything, reject nothing.
Don’t ignore daily, painful gnawing feelings of wanting what you cannot have – be present with them. Be present with them completely, allow yourself to feel them all the way through to their source, and then be present as their source.
Don’t ignore your desires – be present with them. Be present with them completely, allow yourself to feel them all the way through to their source and then be present as their source.
On the path to enlightenment meditation is not your practice – your life is your practice. In every moment of your life be with what arises. Accept it, include it, be completely present with it.
