This company is a bit different from most multi-level marketing companies. For the fact that it becomes more of a direct selling company with opportunities when you reach team leader status. You then earn under an MLM platform.
We know that sounds a bit confusing!
That will all make much more sense as we go along because we will explain in detail what the differences are.
Let’s start by seeing who they are, where they came from, and what they do.

Who is Southwest Advantage?
Where all this began was in 1855 when the Reverend J.R. Groves founded a privately traded company that was called Southwestern Company.
Today they go by their current name Southwest Advantage and are based out of Nashville, Tennessee.
New owners of this company are called the Northwestern Family of Companies.
The current CEO is Dustin Hillis.
This is a very old company and a very old school company in how they run their business. They are a direct marketing company that sells educational books, website subscriptions, and software door-to-door through independent contractors.
Recruits from universities and colleges are trained extensively to sell their products.
These products are unique as they are intended to help kids who are struggling in school for any reason. They are in book form, which is hard to understand in today’s digital world.
The company has grade-specific materials targeted at specific problems and solutions kids go through. Though it sounds old school it is very much-up-to date material.
Pre-K through grade 2, grade 3 through grade 6, and 7th-grade through 12th-grade groups of materials are available.
A website for parents called Advantage4Parents subscription is also offered. This is to go along with the above material that is packed with valuable information on how to help your children with school issues.
These products are respected both by the parents association and the school industry and they work.

Younger people of today may think this business plan
is new but it has been around longer than this company which we said was founded in 1855.
Door-to-door sales used to be the only way you could buy some vacuum cleaners and other products. And people make a great living selling this way.
Set up strictly on commissions from sales, the independent contractors can and do make money. While it is not new, how this particular company does it is a bit unconventional.
Southwest Advantage recruits a few hundred college students from universities in England and thousands of university students from the United States. They are recruited every year to be independent contractors and sell Southwest Advantage products for the summer season.
Each contractor needs two people called endorsers to sign a letter of credit covering $500.00 per signer. This is to cover costs in case the said contractor does not pay what’s owed to the company at summer’s end for their products sold.
Endorsers are usually the parents of independent contractors. But they can be any responsible persons.
The independent contractor will attend a week-long training seminar in Nashville, Tennessee at their own expense. They will then work about 70 plus hours a week doing up to 30 presentations a day. They then must attend a local sales meeting every Sunday.
Contractors are required to cover their own expenses. They are able to keep the down payments on each order they sell to cover their day to day costs.
At the end of the summer season, the contractors have a meeting in Nashville. There, outstanding balances are paid to the company for the products sold. Then commission checks are cut and given to the independent contractors.
It seems like a huge commitment for unguaranteed monies, and that is what it is. But many swear by the life lessons learned and many make huge profits by working this program.
Independent contractors who show leadership and success in their sales may have the opportunity to become a sales team leader for the following summer season.
This puts them into the MLM program with commissions on the contractors in their group’s sales. They also receive other perks.
Some very successful people have been independent contractors for Southwest Advantage. They include federal judges, senators, governors, and even a federal prosecutor.
Because of the long hours, lack of benefits and cover for expenses of their independent contractors, several campuses have banned this company from recruiting their students for work.
They feel the company should treat their contractors as employees and that said employees should get employee benefits.
The University of Idaho, Durham, Maryland, Birmingham, and Harvard all joined in on the ban. But the company still recruits students despite this as the ban is legally non-binding.

Southwestern Advantage is not your everyday MLM company for sure, but we still like it!
If you like warm sales to family, friends and strangers and if door-to-door selling does not bother you, and if you do not mind working your tail off, then this just might be your ticket into the world of direct selling.
There is a chance of advancement to become a manager, thus entering the multi-level marketing division of their business plan. Mind you, the company is as solid as they get.
The positives definitely outweigh the negatives. So we give Southwest Advantage a big thumbs up!
